Here we are at day 13, almost halfway through May. Make sure to keep up with Maggie and Cheila as we take this challenge together.

Day 13 is about My Dream Job.

Today’s post is going to be shorter than the others.

I never really had a dream job to be honest. I’ve worked a lot of jobs, and while some have been good, and others bad, I can honestly say that I’ve never been happier than I am now in my current job as a teacher.

I never dreamed that one day I would be working and spending my days surrounded by babies and toddlers. That I would spend my days singing songs, dancing like an idiot, effortlessly maneuvering myself so I can comfort multiple children at the same time. That picking up babies (sometimes two at once) feels completely natural and normal to me. That care routines (feeding, sleeping, and nappies) would become second nature. That I can tell which child is behind me by their cry, laugh or walk. That while there are hard days, it’s all worth it when we laugh and play together, when they run (or in their case it’s more like a fast waddle) up to me for a cuddle, as I watch them grow up and learn how to walk, talk, push boundaries, make friends, learn empathy… That it’s a bittersweet feeling when these babies and toddlers grow up and move to the preschool side, and we’re not as close. But they still like to stop by and talk to me, to tell me about their new shoes, or what they did that weekend.  I’ve been at my current job for over two years now, and I love every single child that comes under our care. Even the ones that love to push buttons 😛 I love the team that I am lucky enough to work with, and how we are all passionate when it comes to teaching.

So in that respect, I’ve found my dream job. I look forward to going to my job, and I also look forward to coming home and crashing after a big day of running around after all those cheeky monkeys.

You have really amazing job, I kinda feel it really suits you. While growing up I also didn’t really know what I want to do and what is my dream job, to be honest I don’t know it now also haha. xx

      Thanks for that Azra 😄
I kinda fell into this line of work by accident but I’m so happy I did 🙂
Hopefully one day you’ll figure out what it is you really want to do! 😄

Aw that is a sweet job indeed and quite rewarding when they tell you about their new shoes and in some time maybe their crushes 😉 I like this dream job of yours even though I would suck at it. I do not think I have the patience to deal with children after cuddling them for 10 minutes. So I doff my hat to thee! xx

Thank you! At this age I’m not sure if they have crushes. They will straight up tell someone if they do or don’t like someone. Then they will decide to get married on the spot. I’ve seen it happen many times. A lot of the parents often say they don’t know how we deal with so many children in a day XD It’s a very tiring and rewarding job, but it’s definitely not for everyone 🙂

I can believe that. And patience is key. I meant in the years to come they will possibly be confiding in you about their various experiences x

Gotcha, I misread comments all the time. I think I read too fast and start commenting back before I’ve fully comprehended what’s happening. I do that talking sometimes too.

Oh gee, I know that because I do that often by the way. You have no idea how once in a while my words tumble out and come out all wrong! But there is no harm done here whatsoever so no worries 😉

Thanks Maggie! If you have always enjoyed looking after kids, then working with them could be the next step 😉

What a sweet post! I’m glad you found a job you like, and that seems to fit you so well! Haha I love that you can tell which child is following you based on cries/laughs. That’s so cool! I don’t spend any time with children unless they visit the office where I work so that’s something I never thought about, but it makes perfect sense. 😂

Thanks Pamela! Yeah, its crazy, I spend so much time with all these little kiddies, that each of the noises and sounds they made is familiar to me even when my back is turned. Same for the preschool side, I’ll be on the other side of the centre, hear a cry and know who it is. XD

Awww Angela, this just warms my heart. Toddlers are indeed so sweet and snuggly, but definitely challenging and sometimes frustrating–the energy and patience and humor needed to take care of them is definitely a gift and talent. 🙂

Thanks Kristyn! They definitely like to push boundaries, when I first started working with them it was hard all the time, but now it’s only hard sometimes XD But I love it.
This job does take a lot of energy, I’m always ready to crash when I get home 🙂

Gosh, I can only imagine. I know chasing my 2 little guys at home is exhausting, and that is only two of them! Teaching fourth grade is pretty tiring, and I know that is nothing compared to the energy you exert with the little ones. Sheesh 🙂

I have yet to figure out my dream job! I recently graduated from college and feel a bit lost sometimes. It made me so happy to read that you have found your calling. The world needs more passionate teachers like you! xx

Thanks Natalie! I had no idea what to do coming out of college. I loved studying Music, but I didn’t know how to go about getting a job in that field. I worked office jobs for a year, before getting a volunteer job to tutor kids in piano, and then bells started ringing in my head that this was fun, and maybe I should look into teaching XD
I hope one day you figure it out too 🙂
