30 Day Movie Challenge – Day 5

Day 5 – A Favourite Drama Movie

Logan.

This does delve into the superhero genre I love so much, but I consider this particular film, much more drama than traditional superhero. I also talked about this in myΒ March Favourites.

Basically this is the last X-Men film chronologically speaking. It’s also the last one with Wolverine a.k.a. Logan, a.k.a. Hugh Jackman. Β The film takes place in 2029, no new mutants have been born, and all the current ones are dying out. Logan now takes on odd jobs as a driver and looks after Charles (Professer X, played by the awesome Patrick Stewart) who is suffering from an unknown brain disease that causes him to lose control of his telepathic abilities. Then, they come across a young girl named Laura (Dafne Keen) who is very similar to Logan, claws and all. She’s being chased by some folks, and Logan and Charles end up taking her under their wing. That’s all I’ll say for now.

This movie was pretty visceral. It was R18 after all. There’s cursing, stabbing, fighting and decapitation. It’s also the best superhero film I’ve seen for a while. While yes there’s action, the bulk of the film’s greatness for me lies in the relationships. The one between Charles and Logan, and Logan and Laura in particular. It’s emotional, heartbreaking and uplifting, which you often don’t hear about too much in the superhero genre.

Have you guys seen Logan?

What’s your favourite drama?

  1. I have watched this one πŸ™‚

    1. And you say you don’t like superhero movies πŸ˜›
Mind you this is more western drama then superhero πŸ˜„

      1. Rui was watching it and I was next to him asking stupid questions. “Why is wolverine so f*cling old?” “He’s like a taxi driver now? With those claws he could be a lumberjack” “how is baldy still alive? Guy must be ancient” “is she his daughter/granddaughter?” πŸ˜‚

        1. πŸ˜‚ ahh. So it wasn’t your choice of film exactly. Its such a good movie though πŸ˜„

          1. There was lots of dust and gun shots. I mostly remember that. Also, I thought Wolverine was his name and had no idea who Logan was

  2. I haven’t watched this one yet but I’m now convinced (Decapitation whaaaa?)

    1. Haha, that’s what it takes to convince you to watch a movie? πŸ˜›
This is a really good drama/action movie though πŸ˜€

  3. I saw this at the cinema with my boyfriend when it came out and I surprisingly liked it. What I mean by surprisingly is I hadn’t seen the previous movies in the series and it’s not the genre I would immediately pick but it was a good film πŸ™‚

    1. I saw it in the movies too, but I was aware of all the previous films and a little sick of them πŸ˜‚
But this is definitely the top one of them all πŸ˜€

  4. I haven’t seen Logan, but I have gotten different views from different people. Some say it’s boring and predictable, some say it’s so interesting they can watch it over again.

I might watch it soon too, though I’ll much rather much movies in the comfort of my home, reason being I like to replay scenes in movies, and I can’t do that when in a cinema.

    1. Fair enough, I could see why some people consider it boring, there are predictable parts, but overall it’s so good! At least to me, definitely watch it on your own and see what you think πŸ™‚

      1. I would sometime for sure. Maybe when I get break from school!

  5. I loved Logan! It was the Wolverine movie I’d always wanted to see!!!

    1. Yes!! It was the best one, it was such a fitting end for his character too πŸ™‚

      1. Absolutely!

  6. Angela, I just recently watched Logan and have to agree with you. I was very surprised – as you said it was a departure from the superhero feel of the X-Men movies. But I enjoyed it immensely – edgy, gripping but with real heart and emotion.

    1. Thanks Tracey! I’m glad you agree. It’s definitely got a different feel to it than the other superhero movies around. It’s a lot more drama and emotionally oriented I feel. It’s a bit western inspired, I enjoyed it more this way though! πŸ™‚

  7. I actually quite liked Logan. The last two Wolverine films did nothing for me. Laura was incredible. What a feisty little ball of fire she was! And I hate it that Hugh Jackman has to go.

    1. I never watched any of the wolverine spinoffs as they didn’t interest me. Logan definitely intrigued me and I’m so glad I saw it πŸ˜„
Laura is definitely someone not to cross πŸ˜ƒ

      1. Well you did not miss out on them. I love X-Men so! Now I wish I had Laura’s powers but I am non-violent, okay (after all, I am from Gandhi’s land)? xx

        1. Hey, I’m with you. Their powers are great, the fast healing thing would come in handy with the random scrapes and bruises I get from being clumsy. Not sure what I would do with the knives though. Cut food?

          1. Hahaha hmm unleash them on alligators, anacondas and nasty species of the human kind πŸ˜›
