30 Day Movie Challenge – Day 15

Day 15 – Least Favourite Book Adaptation

Insurgent

This was the film that made me give up on the whole Divergent movie series. Which really annoyed me as Insurgent was my favourite book out of the series.

I enjoyed reading Divergent, but Insurgent was by far my favourite. It ramped up the stakes, and I got completely lost and invested in the book. (I wasn’t a fan of the third book though). I was okay with the first Divergent film, and thought that Insurgent would be a fun watch. I was wrong. From  the first time I saw the trailer, I was just confused. What the hell is that box with all the tubes and such? The whole time I was watching this movie I’m sure I had a perplexed look on my face. They veered miles from the original source material, and I didn’t get lost in the world like I did reading the story.

I mean, this whole series still feels like a copy of the Hunger Games a little, but at least the books were enjoyable and engaging. Can’t say the same about the movie versions.

What’s your least favourite book adaptation?

Remember to check out Hannah as she does the challenge too!

  1. I 100% agree with you. I was quiet disappointed but the third movie is even worse… so disappointing

    1. I don’t think I’ll even try to watch that one 😂

  2. I didn’t read the books, but I can imagine your disappointment. I hated the film version of The Giver. I told all my students that watching the movie didn’t count and we’ll be reading the book. They all agreed the movie sucks in comparison.

    1. I just freed your comment in spam. WordPress has stopped doing that to me lately, I think. But it is annoying. Lucky I checked!
But yes, books in general are better than the movie

      1. Thanks girl. WordPress be trippin sometimes.

  3. Haven’t read or watched any of these, but the Hunger Games movies got me a bit this way. Loved the books though.

    1. Fair enough. I would avoid these films entirely, but the books are good 🙂 as always, the books are more enjoyable than the movies

  4. I wasn’t a fan of the third book either, which was disappointing since I enjoyed the others so much!

    1. I know! It was a strange choice for an ending on top of the messy storyline in general 😥

  5. The movie was definitely not what I expected. The third one was so much worse though.

    1. Haha, I really don’t think I’m gonna watch the third one. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about it 😂

  6. That’s really disappointing, since the books were so good.

    1. It’s so true! The books were so fun, but the movie just didn’t match up
