DIY – Travel Wall

Hey! So this is kind of a DIY post, I just wanted to share a little project I’ve been working on in my office. It’s not finished yet, but I wanted to show what I’ve done so far.

The idea came to me randomly, I am a fan of scrapbooking, but it requires a lot of time and I get impatient. So I made it a little smaller, I thought why not make a little wall display of the places I’ve been to.

I printed a bunch of maps of the countries I’ve been to, and a bunch of photos from all the places. I made the photos small, so that I could collage them around the maps. Then, I also got some themed cardboard paper, and some sticky notes.

The next step was cutting everything out, which I always enjoy for some unknown reason. Then I chose a themed paper for each country. I stuck the map in the middle, and all around I stuck photos from my time there. I dotted the cities I’d been too, but realized you couldn’t see it from a distance. So I used the sticky notes to write the city name clearer.

Here’s how it looks so far.

It turned out pretty good! I had no image in my head at first of what the end product would be like. I want to do more on it. I’m not sure what though. I don’t have much memorabilia from my time overseas. All my Peru ones are in a prior scrapbook, and while I do have some tickets, and other things left from trips, I feel like it would get too messy. I don’t know, it’s still a work in progress, but I like having it up in the office.

Any ideas on ways I could extend my little travel wall?

Edit (28/11/17)

Since this post is still really popular I thought I would include an update of my travel wall. I have since included a scratch map, and used that as the centre of my travel wall. As I do more on it, I’ll be sure to update this post again!

Angela.

  1. I love your travel wall!! Looks so cool xx

    1. Thanks Anni! ?

  2. A scratch map? Your travel wall looks lovely, full of memories waiting to be looked at and reminisced about. I have one too but mine is filled with souvenirs. Mini canvases, tin signs and more tin signs 😉

    1. Ooh I like that idea. Where would I fins a scratch map? And i think I will add some souvenirs to the wall, to go wih the photos!

      1. Any bookstore? Or best, the quickfix to everyone’s needs: amazon 🙂

    1. Ooh, that looks really cool. But I also have no patience for it ? I like the idea of adding a map though, and having lines come out to my photo collection!

      1. You’ve done well for someone with no patience haha

  3. Your travel wall is so cool! I would love to make one of these myself because nothing makes me quite as happy as travel and it seems like a great way of reminding yourself of incredible memories:)

    1. Thanks so much Maria! That was the exact reason I had for making it! I love looking back on all those memories 🙂

  4. That looks great and I bet it is so satisfying to look at! 😀 I love flicking through my scrapbooks but this looks great! I just wouldn’t have the wall space to do it XD

    1. It is satisfying to look at! I have one scrapbook for my Peru travels and I really love it, but it takes too much time to make them. I have a big empty wall in the office, so I thought this would be a great way to fill it up 😀

      1. Definitely! 😀 I have loads of scrappy things to do another year or so in my scrapbook but I’m waiting for a good offer to get photos printed again

  5. Hey Angela, your travel wall looks really cool! Maybe you can buy huge photo frames and put them in it. Haha I kind of treat my photo frames as huge scrapbooks.I figured I will see them more often framed up than if they are in a scrapbook or photo album.

    1. That’s a really cool idea Eileen! Framing them on the wall would make it look really nice, and you’re right, it would get viewed more often than tucked away in a scrapbook or album 😀

  6. This is an awesome idea! Love the themes cardboard paper you chose. So pretty <3 xx

    1. Thanks so much Maggie! I was really happy to find them, they’re such nice colours and patterns 😀

      1. You’re welcome! And definitely 🙂

  7. Neat! Reminds me of moodboards. Another blogger did something like this and she basically said that she was putting her “intentions out into the universe” so they can eventually manifest. She had several traveling photos as well. 🙂 I also happen to think the same as my friend and seeing it, you can plan it and get more motivated to make those things happen 🙂

    1. It is similar to moodboards ? kind of like a travel moodboard. I definitely want to do more to it ?

      1. Some glitter, lol. Jk! It’ll get everywhere 😀

  8. so cute <3

    1. Thanks Dawn!

  9. Hey, Angela! That looks very cool! It’s pretty difficult to find a way to keep your memories at sight. 😀 Because you just feel that each photo, each airplane or bus ticket etc. deserves a place on the wall. At least, it’s like that in my case haha. Here’s a videos with a few cool ideas that i found recently:

So far I have my scratch map in the middle and used bits of string to show where the photos around it came from!

      1. Sorry my comment looked so funny. I typed it on my iPhone and it looked fine when I read it before I posted it, but I guess I do need to do the update. It’s supposed to say “This is a lovely idea I will probably steal. I already have a large DIY poster board with photo callages from my summer abraod but I might just do this. If I do I’ll and I make a post about it, I’ll be sure to link your post.”

    1. You can indeed share it 😄

  23. Love this!

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you like it! 😄

  24. A cool idea! Looks very cool, I’m hoping to do this for my girlfriend when we finish travelling. Any tips of things I should keep now to use on the travel wall later?

    1. Hi Zac! I’m glad you like the idea. The souvenirs I’ve attached are mostly tickets. Plane tickets, activity tickets, those sorts of things. Just cause they’re flat and were easier for me to add to the wall. I mostly like to add pictures 😀 But you guys can definitely add whatever you feel like to your travel wall 🙂

  25. Love this! A very unique and beautiful decor / scrapbook / memory wall. We have the exact same map on our wall, which we work very hard to try and fill!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so happy with how it’s come along 😄

  26. How is your scratch map? Debating on purchasing one.

    1. Its a lot of fun! It also makes a great focal point for the wall. They’re not expensive, so I recommend getting one 🙂

      1. Thanks for your insights, I’ll be getting one for sure!

  27. BRRILLIANTTT! My husband and I travel often, this would be such a great idea to share our trips!

    1. I’m glad you like this idea! It’s such a nice memento hanging on the wall 🙂

  28. This is such a good idea! I can’t believe I haven’t thought of it yet.
    Thank you for the inspiration.
