DIY Travel Wall – Updates and Plans

I shared a post last year about my travel wall that I made. I’ve since added a few updates which I wanted to share.

Since adding the scratch off map I’ve liked having it as a focal point. I have been considering about changing it to a pin or cork board map though. As I’ve seen a few in stores that I like.

I still have the places I’ve visited all around the map. I’ve since added our recent trip to Japan. So now the countries I’ve visited include Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, Peru and Japan.

I also wanted to add the postcards and letters that some of my blogging friends have sent me. I’m considering adding the Christmas cards as well, but I also want to save them for Christmas decor later in the year.

I’ve been trying to think of how else I can extend my travel wall. It’s definitely expanded more than I what I originally thought. So I wanted to pick all of your lovely brains a little. Any ideas on how else I could add onto my travel wall? Do you have a similar display in your own home?

      1. Got it, the I Love Portugal one πŸ™‚

  2. Looks like the beginning of a gallery wall to me! I love this frame set (https://amzn.to/2HKCEIL) to get started!

    1. It is kinda like that! That frame set is beautiful πŸ€—

  3. This is so cute love this idea.

    1. Thank you so much!

  4. This looks fantastic! I haven’t traveled much, but I’d love to create something as cool as this once I’ve been around a bit (:

    1. Thank you! I really like how it’s coming along πŸ€— I didn’t really start travelling till a couple of years back. It definitely takes a lot of saving up! Hopefully you guys will get to do lots of travelling in the coming years πŸ˜„

  5. This is lovely idea! I taught about starting a travel wall in the past but I’ve used up all the wall space in our townhome. Hehe. DIY decor mama issues! I like the Christmas card idea. What about post cards, stamps, fabric swatches, mini flags?

    1. Thank you! Haha, there’s always lots of decor ideas to play with! Mini flags would be a great touch! Thanks for the ideas πŸ€—

  6. Such an incredible wall! All memories at one place, love it ^^

    1. Thank you! Its definitely awesome being able to look at it and reminisce on all the amazing trips!

  7. I love it. I used to have a photo wall of loads of photos from my travels but decided to transfer it all in to a scrapbook πŸ™‚ Could you maybe use like pins and string to like pin the country on the map and then the string to go to the photos/memories of that trip? (if that makes sense?)

I’m hoping to in the next couple of months buy a big canvas which’ll have photos from my South Africa trip to have in my room (as well as getting the photos printed for a scrapbook) πŸ™‚

    1. I love the idea of a scrapbook as well! Its why I made one for my Peru trip. But i dont have enough stuff from my other trips to make another scrapbook (maybe Japan!) I was thinking of doing pins and string, it’s why I want to get a cork board map instead of the scratch map πŸ€—

  8. You’re raking up those countries, girl. Maybe you can get some frames for the best pictures and create a cool gallery wall.

    1. Haha, I am getting my fair share of travel! Ooh a gallery wall sounds really cool!! I really love that idea πŸ€—

  9. I love this so much! I currently have a pin map and a journal with cards and tickets in it, but I think your scratch map is better because every time I move I have to take all the pins out πŸ™

    1. Thanks! I’ve actually been thinking of getting a pin map as I like how it looks better than the scratch map haha! I could see how it would get annoying having to take them out again and again though..

  10. Your travel wall is so much fun! <3 The setup is lovely πŸ™‚ One thing you could add (which I’ve even made myself!) is a DIY banner. You just choose pretty, coordinating scrapbook paper (or any other colored paper), then cut out diamonds in whatever size you want and securing them onto twine, string, or yarn. It’s fun and easy to make! I have a book of map scrapbook paper, which is what made me think of it since you’re travel wall has maps haha

    1. That’s a really awesome idea! I always see lots of cool scrapbook paper in the store, but I never get them cause I’m now sure what I would do with them haha πŸ˜€

  11. I love this SO much! I have French memo boards that I slip all my ticket stubs and souvenirs into. I really want a map though! πŸ’—

    1. It’s so nice to have somewhere to place all of our travel memories! πŸ™‚

  12. I wish I had a travel board but I don’t travel enough lol. The cork board idea sounds good too. I love that you have so much to put up

    1. Haha, you could still start a board! Or just make one for the US and start with all the states you’ve visited πŸ™‚ I am coming around to the idea of a cork board more.

      1. True, don’t think I’m leaving the west coast though πŸ˜‚
And if you do end up using a corkboard I cannot wait to see how it will look in the end

  13. This is such an amazing idea to cherish memories and it’s artistic too 😍

    1. Thank you so much!

  14. Such a great idea, looks awesome πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Maha!

  15. good idea!! i also want to start a travel wall but i find the scratch map too generic!

    1. Thanks! Its definitely up to you to decide how to present your travel wall! I’ve started leaning towards the idea of a cork board map myself πŸ™‚

  16. Will try this soon!
Thanks for sharing this amazing ideaπŸŒΈπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

  17. I love it!! It’s such a good idea! Maybe you can add some things you’ve grabbed in the places you visited? Like train tickets or stuff like that? 😊

    1. Thank you! I was considering adding little bits like that πŸ™‚

  18. It’s so pretty ! Love it !

  25. I used to do the same thing in my bedroom in Rome, then I left so many times that I stopped doing it. I don’t even have my own home but maybe one day I’ll stop once again. I just love the scratch map!

    1. It’s a lot of fun to have up on the wall! It’s definitely a nice keepsake to look back on πŸ™‚

  26. I also have a β€œtravel wall” except mine is more of a travel room. I have bits and pieces all over my old bedroom in my parents family home. I also have a scratch map but mine doesn’t have nearly enough scratched off yet.

    1. That’s cool. It’s always nice to have those little mementos from past travels πŸ™‚

  27. I love this idea, we have just started our little travel adventures. I plan to add a photo wall and gather a small trinket from each state or country to add as decoration for our Christmas tree. Maybe that’s something you can incorporate with your cards? Laminate them and hang them on a cute line of string lights.

    1. I love the idea of getting a small trinket from each place you visit and adding it to the Christmas tree!! That’s a great idea πŸ™‚

  28. I love your travel wall,Really great idea.I will definitely try this.
