Hey guys! So we had our 20 week ultrasound late last week. Baby is doing very well, and it was awesome to get to see them. They looked in detail at all of baby’s limbs and organs, and everything seems to be going well. The main reason we were excited to go though, was because we would be able to find out the gender.
So without further ado, we’re having a GIRL!
The sonographer was completely sure, as baby was in a really good position to tell. Rory and I are officially going to have a daughter next year! Her name is pretty much all picked out, but we’re still keeping that to ourselves.
Funnily enough, I had a running theory that we would be having a boy because of my symptoms. I didn’t have any morning sickness and that’s similar to my mum’s pregnancy with my brother. She had lots of morning sickness and nausea for me and my sister. But obviously, each pregnancy is different. There’s really no way to predict gender. But on that note, I’ve found heaps of random old wives tales online of how to predict gender. So now that we know for sure, I thought it would be fun to try them out!
Here’s the link to a list of 12 Old Wives Tales for predicting the gender. I’m sure there’s even more out there. I’ll just do a few of them, but they’re all hilarious.
Sweet Vs Salty Cravings
If you crave sweet things, it’s a sign you’re having a girl. If you crave salty things, it’s a sign you’re having a boy.
My cravings vary a lot. A lot of the time I can’t tell if it’s a pregnancy craving or just a me craving. But it varies between salty and sweet, so this doesn’t help.
If you suffer from extreme nausea or morning sickness, you could be carrying a girl.
So I had heard this one before, which seemed to fit my previous theory. I had no morning sickness, but I’m carrying a girl. So this one doesn’t fit.
If your complexion is bright and your hair is luscious, you’re carrying a boy. If that glow isn’t really there, you’re carrying a girl.
I haven’t been able to tell if I’m ‘glowing’, but I have been told I am. My hair has been stronger though which I appreciate. So according to that, baby should be a boy. Nope.
Carrying high versus low
If you’re carrying high then you’re having a girl, carrying low means you’re having a boy.
I can’t really tell where I’m carrying. Maybe I’ll see more as I get bigger.
Tie a ring on a string and hang it over your belly. If it swings in a circular motion, you’re having a girl. If it swings side to side, you’re having a boy.
This one came up a few times. There were different variations, including the ring being you or your partner’s ring, or that instead of a string, you should a piece of your hair. I decided to go for the craziest one, and used a piece of my hair and my wedding ring for this. It swung side to side pretty insistently, so it’s a sign that baby is a boy. Nope.
If baby’s heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, then you’re having a girl.
Baby’s heart rate has consistently been around 150-160 beats per minute I believe. So this one checks out for us.
Chinese Gender Predictor Chart
Match the month of conception with the mother’s age at conception and find out if you’ll be having a boy or girl.
This one was fun to try out, as it was just following along a chart. It also correctly guessed that we’ll be having a girl.
So yeah, these tell you nothing really. Each pregnancy is unique and the only way to tell the gender with accuracy is with the ultrasound, or when baby officially arrives. It was still fun to try them out though!
That’s all for this post. We’re excited to meet this little lady next March. It’s a lot more fun to look at baby clothes now haha!
